Masquerades attacked Muslims while breaking their fast in the a Central Mosque in Ikun Ekiti, a town under Moba Local Government on Tuesday, May, 30.

The attack took place at sunset around 7pm when the Muslims had gathered in the mosque to observe the Maghrib prayer after breaking their Ramadan fast.

According to PUNCH, the masqueraders were angry that the Muslims had the gut to call for prayers when they were still celebrating their Egun festival.

The masquearders attacked the worshippers with cudgels, stone and iron and inflicted injuries on them.

About five of the worshippers were said to have sustained varying degrees of injury.

The hoodlums also smashed the windscreen and destroyed two cars parked at the entrance of the mosque.

The Acting Imam of the mosque, Alh. Abdul-Rasak Abubakar-Bello, was rushed to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, where he received stitches on his head.

Osinbajo Gives Ambode Permission To Reconstruct Lagos Airport Road
Posted: 31 May 2017 11:40 AM PDT

Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has granted the Lagos State Government, permission to reconstruct the Murtala Mohammed International Airport Road from Oshodi which has been in a bad state for some years.

The state government offered to reconstruct the road despite the fact it belongs to the Federal government.

The Secretary to the State Government, Tunji Bello, disclosed the latest development in a statement released today, May 31.

According to the statement, Ambode commends Osinbajo for granting the request of the state government to do the road. He described the action of the acting president as his own 50th birthday gift to the state.

Recall that in March this year, Ambode told the state residents at a function that his administration had the money and design for the reconstruction of the road which had become a national disgrace but that the Federal government was however hesitant in giving the state the approval to reconstruct the road. This had at the time caused a friction between him and his predecessor, Babatunde Fashola, who is the current Minister for Power, Works and Housing.

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, on Wednesday, May 31, says the creation of the Biafra republic is near.

Kanu who spoke through IPOB’S media and publicity secretary, Emma Powerful, described the level of compliance with the sit-at-home order on Tuesday as satisfactory.

He said he was encouraged by the outing, vowing that he would stop at nothing in ensuring that the people of the area were liberated from the stranglehold of their oppressors.

He thanked “friends of Biafra and lovers of freedom all over the world for their tenacious efforts that made our Heroes Day Sit-At-Home Order a resounding success”.

His statement read in part,”I will not fail to thank Road Transporters Workers, Teachers, Civil Servants, Market Leaders, Artisans, Clergymen, Businessmen, Traders, Okada/Tricycle Drivers, School Children, Parents and all the Biafraland, Transport Owners, Women Organizations, Community Leaders, Youths Leaders in every community, Wheel Barrow/Truck Pushers, and politicians who defied every odd and pressure from Aso Rock to make our sit-at-home order a memorable and resounding historical event.

“In line with this remarkable sit-at-home held yesterday(Tuesday)I will not hesitate to congratulate the people of Abia State, Anambra State, Akwa Ibom State, Bayelsa State, Cross River State, Delta State, Ebonyi State, Enugu State, Imo State, Rivers State including the good people of Igbanke in Edo State, Igala clan in Kogi State and Idoma/Igede/Agatu in Benue State for sending a clear and unmistakable message to the whole world that this Biafra self-determination effort driven by IPOB is uncompromising.

“The fact that our people obeyed the order to sit at home is confirmation that IPOB which I lead has the mandate of all Biafrans to spearhead the ongoing Biafra restoration effort.

“Special thanks goes to my deputy Mazi Uche Mefor, our Directorate of State led by Mazi Chika Edoziem and the indescribably incredible IPOB Family all over the world.

“Those in the diaspora who poured themselves into the streets in distant and foreign lands in more than 98 countries of the world to honour and remember our fallen heroes and heroines who paid the ultimate price during the genocidal war against our people in 1967 and 1970. I appreciate your enormous work because IPOB has made it possible in less than four years for every president and head of state around the world to know about Biafra.

“With near total compliance with this sit-at-home order I issued when I was still in Kuje Prison Abuja, it has proven to me beyond every conceivable doubt that Biafra restoration is a priority to all and sundry and I promise never to let Biafra down even upon the pain of death because you never let me down.

“We must join hands together, with all genuine and sincere individuals and groups, to restore Biafra with truth and honesty.

“I also wish to acknowledge and appreciate the presence of international observers and foreign journalists who were on ground to monitor this epic historical event. It demonstrates that the unique formula adopted by IPOB to restore Biafra is working. By the grace of Almighty God Chukwu Okike Abiama, IPOB under our divine leadership will restore Biafra in no distant future”.

The Federal Government says primary and secondary schools in the country will soon start teaching Mathematics and Science subjects in indigenous languages.

The Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu said this at the inauguration of inter-ministerial committee on teaching of mathematics and science subjects in local languages in Abuja on Wednesday, May 31.

The inter-ministerial committee involved Federal Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education.
He said the inter-ministerial committee would help to develop the capacity of the local languages to serve as effective tools for teaching mathematics and science subjects.

According to him, the project will help Nigerian students to understand mathematics and science subjects better.
He said the project would also promote the application of science and technology for national development.

The minister expressed concern of the government over the low interest in mathematics and the science subjects by students.

Mr. Onu said various countries like India and China adopted a related strategy by teaching mathematics and the science subjects in their indigenous languages at the primary school level.

‘Fayose Is Desperate For Publicity’ – Garba Shehu Reacts To The Governor’s Call For Buhari’s Resignation
Posted: 31 May 2017 09:15 AM PDT

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has been described by Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, as someone who is desperate for publicity.

Shehu was reacting to Fayose’s call for his principal’s resignation.

Recall the Ekiti Governor had during a chat with newsmen yesterday, May 30, in Lagos called on President Buhari to resign over his ailing heath.

Garba Shehu in a chat with Channels TV last night, said he was disappointed to be called upon to react to Fayose’s statement. According to the presidential media aide, the presidency never responds to anything Fayose says.

“I’m sad that you are inviting me to speak on Governor Fayose. If you follow the Presidency, we don’t talk when he talks because he is desperate for publicity. We have a constitution that governs the country and the constitution is very clear about how the country runs. This country has a tripod of authority in terms of distribution of political power. You have the parliament which is doing its own work, you have the judiciary which is running, you have the executive and we don’t have any problem with this so therefore if anybody has a problem with the constitution then they should go and change it.”

Men of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a midwife for allegedly stealing her patient’s new born baby and replacing it with a dead one.

[VIDEO] ‘Jonathan Is Always Complaining He Is Broke’ – Deji Adeyanju
Posted: 31 May 2017 07:40 AM PDT

Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is broke according to a former Peoples Democratic Party youth leader and convener of the Concerned Nigerians, Deji Adeyanju.

Adeyanju, who spoke in a recent interview with Sahara Reporters, said the former President has complained he doesn’t have money. He refuted claims that the former president was a corrupt leader.

“The former president is a simple man and he is very trusting. The problem was that he trusted too many people and those people did not live up to the expectation. Personally, I do not think that the former president is corrupt. But there were too many corrupt people around him. Now, he complains that he doesn’t have money. So if a former president can be complaining all the time, not just once, not twice…..he complains frequently. Its a very complicated thing. We did our best and offered the counsel we could give but things turned out the way they did”he said

Deji commended the APC government for the ongoing war against Boko Haram and also for the return of the abducted Chibok girls which according to him, his party which is the PDP could not accomplish.

Arsene Wenger Signs New Two-Year Contract With Arsenal
Posted: 31 May 2017 06:50 AM PDT

Arsène Wenger has agreed a new two‑year contract at Arsenal, bringing months of uncertainly to an end that even he admitted was damaging to the club over this past season.

The manager, who has been at the club since the early weeks of the 1996-97 season, met the club’s directors on Tuesday, having demanded that they back him after Arsenal’s FA Cup final victory against Chelsea on Saturday and strong finish to the campaign.

Stan Kroenke, the majority shareholder, has stood firm in support of Wenger, even during the dismal run of form from the end of January to early April, when the team lost seven of 12 matches in all competitions. They did not recover sufficiently in the Premier League and, for the first time under Wenger, they missed out on the top four. The fifth-placed finish was good enough only for Europa League qualification.

Kroenke gave his backing to Wenger and the new contract was rubber-stamped at the board meeting. Kroenke, plainly, still believes that Wenger can, with the right set of circumstances, mount a challenge for the title – the winning of which would vindicate the second half of the manager’s lengthy tenure.
