A 14-year-old housemaid, Mary Akinnifesi, has been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly attempting to kill her boss, Alhaji Nasiru Akinlosotu, with poison, Vanguard reports.

It was gathered that the incident happened on Adetomowo Street, Ondo town, Ondo State, on Friday.

Akinsolotu said that his wife asked Akinnifesi to prepare beans for the family, but the maid allegedly added rat poison to the food.

The 63-year-old explained that as he was eating the food, he noticed that it had a strange taste and an offensive odour.

He said he vomited the little he had swallowed from the food and asked the maid about the content of the food.

He said, “It was in the course of interrogation by our neighbour that the maid confessed that she put rat poison into my own share of the food.

“She also confessed that she decided to add poison to my food because I beat her anytime she committed an offence in the house.”

It was gathered that Akinifesi was handed over to the police at the Yaba Police Division in Ondo town.

The Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Mr. Femi Joseph, said the command would investigate the matter.

Arsene Wenger Enters Record Books As Most Successful Manager In The FA Cup History
Posted: 28 May 2017 01:51 PM PDT

Following a 2-1 win on Saturday over Chelsea in the FA Cup Final, Arsene Wenger has become the most successful manager in FA Cup history after helping Arsenal lift the trophy for a record 13th time.

Goals from Alexis Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey sent the Gunners celebrating at Wembley, with the Welshman hitting what proved to be the winner minutes after Diego Costa briefly restored parity.

And the victory brings up a very special record for Wenger, who is now out on his own as the best the world’s oldest club competition has ever seen.

The Frenchman has now won seven FA Cup titles, more than any other manager in the title’s 143 years of existence.

His first success in the competition came in 1997-98, completing the double in his second season in England.

Further wins followed in 2001-02, 2002-03, 2004-05, 2013-14 and 2014-15, with the latest triumph bringing him to a total of 10 major trophies with the Gunners.

With 13 FA Cup wins in total, meanwhile, Arsenal are also the most successful club, pulling away from former joint-leaders Manchester United, who boast 12.

[PHOTOS] Nigerian Couple Welcome Sextuplets In USA After 17 Years Of Childlessness

A couple who tried to conceive for 17 years got everything they wished for and more when they welcomed sextuplets into the world at VCU Medical Center in Virginia.
Nigerian native Ajibola Taiwo gave birth to three boys and three girls ranging from just one pound, 10 ounces, to two pounds, 15 ounces via cesarean section on May 11.

Ajibola and her husband Adeboye Taiwo were overjoyed when they went to their first ultrasound in November and heard four heartbeats – only to discover they were expecting two more in January.
The Taiwos were thrilled to learn they were expecting after nearly two decades of trying to become parents.

But the high-risk birth required a team of 40 people, who practiced drills and resuscitation exercises in advance, according to Susan Lanni, the medical director of labor and delivery at the hospital.

Lanni said: ‘A typical labor and delivery shift includes one, perhaps two premature births, usually with time in between. We had to coordinate with our colleagues in the NICU for six premature babies to be delivered simultaneously.’

Ajibola was discharged from the hospital last week, while the six newborns continue to thrive in the intensive care unit.
Both Ajibola and Adeboye were pictured holding the babies to their chests to reap the benefits of skin-to-skin contact.

‘I hope for the smallest of my six children to grow up and say “I was so small, and look at me now,”‘ said Ajibola.

The Taiwo sextuplets were the first delivered at VCU Medical Center.
The last set of sextuplets were thought to be born in Trinidad in March 2013, with only three of the six babies surviving.

‘Nigeria’s Greatness Lies In Its Human Capital, Not Oil – Ezekwesili
Posted: 28 May 2017 12:34 PM PDT
Former Minister of Education, Dr  Oby Ezekwesili,  says  Nigeria’s  greatness  will emerge through human capital development programmes for youths and not oil  or solid  minerals.

Ezekwesili said this  in Abuja  at “ SHIFT,’’  an annual youth programme of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).

The SHIFT initiative uses unconventional ways such as dancing, singing, comedy, innovation and empowerment that youths could  relate with to become  Christians.

The  programme,  which  attracted youths from the FCT, Plateau, Niger as well as Kaduna  and Nasarawa States,  had as  theme “ Creativity Unleashed.’’

She said such programmes would give youths a platform to showcase their hidden talents that needed to be unleashed and unlocked.

The former minister , however, advocated that youths should be supported  through public policy, right instructions  and investment  in education, health and other  social services.

According to her, supporting   youths  will enable  them to acquire skills needed for self reliance.

“The more we emphasise education, talents, diligence, values, the more we have youths that can face competition  with the rest of the world.

“ Youths are the present leaders of the country; if we don’t prepare them to become people who are able to actualise their utmost potentials, what happens will affect them,’’ she said.

‘Ambode’s Wife Committed Sacrilege And Should Apologise Over Her Actions’ —Bishop
Posted: 28 May 2017 09:30 AM PDT
Rt.Rev. Michael Adeyemi, a reverend and head of the African Church, Ifako Diocese, has said Bolanle Ambode, wife of Lagos state governor, should apologise over her actions which allegedly led to the dismissal of Femi Taiwo, presiding chaplain of the Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa.

In this explosive interview with The Punch, Adeyemi states the position of the church.

What relationship exists between The African Church and the Chapel of Christ the Light?

The chapel belongs to the Lagos State Government, but it is being managed by the entire Christian body and, specifically, the various blocs that form the Christian Association of Nigeria. In CAN, there are five blocs. The African Church belongs to the Christian Council of Nigeria, which is one of the blocs. The position of the Presiding Chaplain of the Chapel is rotated among the blocs to avoid any disharmony in the body of Christ. So, it is our turn to produce the Presiding Chaplain.

Venerable Taiwo, who is from this (Ikeja) diocese, was the chaplain for three years and after the three years he applied to become the presiding chaplain. He was interviewed and discovered to be qualified. He was subsequently employed as the Presiding Chaplain.

He started in January 2016, and was supposed to spend three years, but this incident happened. His predecessor came from the ECWA bloc of CAN and it was when his predecessor finished his tenure that he was appointed.

What is the process of appointing chaplains?

When the position becomes vacant, it will be published in the newspapers. Normally, applications will be invited from everybody, but in the end it will follow the usual order of rotation. So, when everybody applies, there will be a panel that will interview the applicants and the qualified person will be employed.

What do you know about the events that culminated in the sack of Taiwo?

It was on Monday, May 15, that Venerable Taiwo called me that there was a development in the chapel and that he was coming to see me. He came and showed me the sack letter, saying that his appointment had been terminated.

However, before now, there have been some issues in the chapel. He said the governor’s wife called him and the chaplain, who was his assistant, to see her. The two of them went there and they had a good interaction. There was no problem.  That (incident) happened in the first week of May.

He said some members of the governing council then called him to know why he went to the First Lady’s office and he explained to them that he and his assistant were invited. The council then told him he shouldn’t have gone to see her and that he should have allowed them to resolve any issue. The council then asked him and his assistant to write an apology letter, which they did. The governing council said the letter was to assuage the First Lady because she felt she was being challenged and accused of fraternising with a former presiding chaplain. According to Venerable Taiwo, that was the only encounter they had before the Monday 15th sack letter came.

But are you aware that he got some queries as the government alleged? Has he ever told you he was queried at anytime for any offence?

I asked him specifically if he had been receiving queries from the officials of the chapel or the government, but he said it has never happened.

I know Taiwo. He is a very responsible minister of God; very knowledgeable, humble and disciplined. I have worshiped at that chapel a few times myself. And I made personal investigations about him. Even the members of the chapel are saddened by this development. If you know about what they have been doing since this incident happened, you will know venerable Taiwo is a man everybody respects.

Like what?

They accommodated him and furnished the place just to make him comfortable. They have also written to the government to rescind the decision. He is not a wayward person.

A lot of Nigerians are outraged about what happened. Do you think that this anger is justified?

It is highly justified. Even as a church, we are furious with the government. But we are trying to approach the issue from different angles. One is to appeal to the government, if reasoning will prevail. The governor himself and his wife can rescind the order.   The head of the church, His Eminence, Primate Emmanuel Josiah, has written to the governor’s office. He has been asked to book an appointment with the First Lady. We are aware that the letter written to the First Lady is not being attended to; she is not even ready to make herself available.

Has the church received any formal complaint against the Venerable?

That is where as a church we are angry with the government. If he is a serial offender as alleged, nothing stops them from reporting him to the church, that the person you seconded to the office here has a bad attitude and we would have called him to order. We have many others that we could have sent to the chapel. But we are very sure of him that was why we sent him. The government failed to inform us and for government now to have taken such a drastic step and tell him to leave (his official apartment) within 24 hours leaves much to be desired.

You mean the 24-hour ultimatum was truly stated in the sack letter?

I was here (in my office) when he (Venerable Taiwo) called me that they asked him to pack out within 24 hours and that he was even told that the governor’s wife would not like to hear that he was still being seen around. Then we started wondering what could have happened? Somebody that has a wife and kids, and you asked him to go within 24 hours? Where do you expect him to go?

This is very ungodly! It is a sacrilege for someone who happens to be a Christian. Even when Fashola (former Lagos State Governor) was there, despite being a Muslim, he never took such a decision. Now that the governor (Ambode) is a Christian, which we all fought for, he is the one taking ungodly decisions. We have written letters to CAN and CCN, including the Methodist Church where the Venerable Taiwo’s assistant came from, that if Mrs. Ambode, is trying to cause divide and rule among the Christians, she should go ahead. We are not afraid of anything.

We understand that Mrs. Ambode is also a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God, let her go and ask the RCCG Pastor, Enoch Adeboye, whether what she did was the right thing to do to a minister of God. It is ungodly and very sad.

When the church heard that the sack was about anointing oil, what was the general reaction of the church?

Anointing oil is a personal thing. Nobody has the right or power to force anybody to take anointing oil. It is even ungodly to say a worshipper should take it by force. Even Holy Communion is voluntary; there is no protocol when it comes to that. When you are in the House of God, rich or poor, old or young, you are all equal before God. If Ambode will recall, anytime she comes for service, she will be the one to sit in the front and she has the right and privilege of going to the stage first if she is interested.

What did the Venerable tell you happened at the service that day?

I have tried to confirm from Taiwo what really happened on that Sunday and he said the service held as usual. There were three of them who stood to minister the anointing oil and few of them who wished to receive the oil came forward. Ambode’s wife later joined the queue. And she even participated in the thanksgiving service.

But why was she angry that day? The church members said she left in annoyance.

From my findings, her point of annoyance was that she was not recognised. She was not duly recognised and I asked that at what point was she expecting that recognition? I was told that Venerable Taiwo mounted the pulpit to deliver the sermon, she expected him to recognise and welcome her to the service. To some extent, I agree with her because the Bible says we should give honour to whom it is due.

Was that enough for a sacking?

That did not call for a sacking. The procedure they adopted was ungodly. If she felt offended because of recognition, there is a procedure. She could have called the chapel members and the management body and let them query him and ask why he didn’t recognise the governor’s wife. And then the management body would make their recommendation to the governing council. And the council will then forward their decision to the government. That is the way it should be done. But they didn’t do it.

Whatsoever it is, our own point is that the right procedure was not followed. Government has the right to employ and the right to sack. But if you are now sacking and asking the person to leave within 24 hours, that is too much.

As a church, we are demanding apology from the governor and the government of Lagos State. We demanded that we wanted a Christian governor. We came out en masse and supported the political ambition of Ambode. We told our members to go out and vote for him. Unfortunately, people have started mocking us.

What has happened is a sacrilege and Mr. Ambode should know that. We have been appreciating his efforts in Lagos. Why will he allow himself to get involved in such a trivial issue that can spoil his public image? You are the governor and the image of Lagos State and the father of all. When any report comes to you, you should dissect that report and know what steps and action to take.

Has CAN tried to mediate in this matter?

Yes, CAN and CCN have been trying to do some underground work to ensure that the matter did not get to this level. But now that it has got to this point, we have served them letters and I am sure they know what to do.

Will the church query the Venerable over the incident?

Yes, however, it might not be in the form of query. The church will do its findings over his activities over there and we will forward out findings to the centre. But so far from our findings, we have not found any fault in him. Some of the elders and chapel leaders are also angry over the sacking. They were not informed. He has not done anything to warrant what happened.

What has been the experience of the pastors of the church with Mrs. Ambode and former first ladies in Lagos State?

While I will not want to be too personal, as a church, we are very much at home with Dame Abimbola Fashola than with Mrs. Bolanle Ambode. Mrs. Fashola is a mother, very humble, knowledgeable and mature. She has a way of dealing with men, women, young, old, men of God of different cadres and she knows how to appreciate people. Many of these attributes are somehow lacking in Mrs Ambode. Maybe this is because of her tender age; she needs to acquire more experience.

What is the state of the Venerable and his family now?

I want to thank the members of the Chapel of Christ the Light. They have been very fantastic. They accommodated him and furnished the place he is staying now. His car got burnt where he parked it. If a car is parked in a government house and that car got burnt in the middle of the night like 2am, there is foul play. Even that alone, if government is very fair, they were supposed to set up a panel to investigate it. But that did not happen.

When this incident happened, it was these members that bought him another car so that he would not feel the impact of what happened. Even as a church, we are making plans to ensure he is not stranded.

He will not be without a ministry. We are going to give him a station very soon, if he is not called back. We just don’t want to rush it.

What will the church do if the government recalls him?

If government calls him back before he resumes at his new station, then we will need to sit down with them because this is a complete embarrassment to the church. Ambode,  his wife, the state government, embarrassed and insulted the African Church. We must sort things out and give them our stand.

They may decide to recall him because of the tension that has arisen over the incident only to do something worse. These politicians cannot be predicted. Any politician that does not have the fear of God cannot be trusted. The embarrassment they caused us has never happened to any other denomination. Even during the military era this can never happen.

Why do you think some government officials don’t respect pastors and priests?

They lack the fear of God. They are conscious of position and money and with this, the society cannot move forward. Also, our religious leaders have messed themselves up because of money. They are patronising the politicians and they are making them to believe that their anointing is not real.

But I believe that any politician, who has the fear of God in him, even if any minister misbehaves, you are not the one to judge him. You should ensure you do your part. If Ambode or his wife knows the tenets of Christianity, they will not deal with Venerable Taiwo like that. They will know that this is a man of God.

They should have said have written to us, saying they don’t want to embarrass the church and we as a church would have handled it. We have a lot of other ministers across the state and the country. But they didn’t do that because there is no fear of God in them. They are not ready to submit to the Will and Word of God. Ego is killing us.

If not ego, why should Mrs. Ambode feel embarrassed that she was not called first to receive the anointing? But when ego takes the better part of any individual, that person will misbehave and if you tell him or her the truth, he or she will not agree.

[PHOTO] Man Kills 28-Year-Old Banker In The Most Brutal Way In Port Harcourt

Pascal and his wife
Nothing prepared Priscilla for the tragedy that befell her on Saturday, May 12, 2017 after her husband, Pascal Chukwuemeka Nnorom was killed in the most horrendous way ever.

28-year-old Pascal, a staff of Union Bank of Nigeria, and his wife of 2 years, Priscilla, were on their way to attend the wedding ceremony of Pascal’s colleague in Elelewon area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Saturday, May 13, 2017, when the sad incident occured.
.
Pascal’s journey to his untimely grave began when a Toyota Camry car, driven by one Joseph Udoh, from Anang in Akwa Ibom State, hit his Honda CRV SUV in Oil Mill area of the city, near the Eleme bridge.

The deceased, who hailed from Eziudo Mbaise, Imo State, was said to have alighted from his vehicle and walked over to meet the driver of the Camry. He placed his hand on the door of the Camry, but Udoh allegedly refused to alight from his own car for them to resolve the matter.

Rather, he quickly wound up the glass, trapping Pascal’s hand and then sped off.

Grieving Priscilla said: “He dragged him several poles before he stopped.”

In the process of dragging the victim, his body hit the hard pavement severally, His spinal cord and legs were broken and he became immediately unconscious and later died.

A mobhowever prevented Udoh from escaping. They tortured him and were about to give him jungle justice before he was rescued by policemen.

Priscilla described the husband as her best friend. “He was everything to me,” she added, sobbing profusely. .

According to the widow, one of the most painful aspects of the death was that her marriage to Pascal was yet to produce a child before his death. “When the mob was beating Udoh, he told them he was ready to die, as far as he had done what he wanted to do,” Priscilla said.

It was gathered that soon after her husband was confirmed dead, Priscilla fainted and had to be revived.

Meanwhile, she has appealed to the government and the security agencies to bring her husband’s killer to book. “I want justice,” she said.

The Real Reason Why The Chaplain Of Lagos Was Fired By Governor Ambode
Posted: 28 May 2017 05:51 AM PDT

The last has not been heard on the story of Presiding Chaplain of the Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa, Lagos State, who was fired and sacked by Governor Ambode last week. Read previous story here

According to an exclusive report by Premium Times,  the Chaplain, Femi Taiwo who was removed from his post allegedly on the orders of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode breached church protocols and had a long standing disciplinary problems with the church.

Taiwo who was removed on May 15, was also ordered out of his official quarters within 24 hours of receiving the letter.

Media reports suggested Mr. Taiwo’s removal came after his actions during an anointing service on May 14 angered the Lagos State governor’s wife, Bolanle Ambode, who was in attendance.

The reports said Mrs. Ambode waited endlessly as she joined a queue to be anointed without any preference accorded her; and that she left the church in anger after been anointed.

But a series of letters and correspondences reviewed by PREMIUM TIMES showed that Mr. Taiwo’s problems with the church predated the event of May 14.

“The point is that he (Mr. Taiwo) disregarded rules to go and meet the First Lady without authorisation, out of selfish interest,” a source at the church.

In late February this year, Mr. Taiwo had paid an ‘authorised visit’ to Mrs. Ambode without the knowledge of the church’s Governing Council; but he allegedly lied to the governor’s wife that he was sent by the Council.

At the meeting, Mr. Taiwo, those familiar with the matter said, schooled the First Lady on why he should be the “alpha and omega” on anything spiritual concerning Governor Ambode and his family.

He also reportedly cited the church’s constitution repeatedly to convince the First Lady to always respect his office and powers.

“He told the First Lady that the small church inside the State House should be reporting to him. And that he would withdraw some of the staff if his demands were not granted, almost threatening the First Lady,” one official said.

Mrs. Ambode, one of our sources said, was shocked by the clergyman’s attitude, and she promptly contacted the church’s Governing Council to complain.

The Council “was shocked that Mr. Taiwo, a supposed man of God, could lie and misrepresent himself to the First Lady, and immediately queried the clergyman, demanding explanation.”

“It came to the notice of the Governing Council of Chapel of Christ the Light that you requested and held a meeting with Her Excellency on 27th February, 2017, claiming that the Governing Council mandated you to do so,” read the query signed by ‘Gbenga Solomon, a Reverend Canon and the Governing Council Chairman.

“Please, note that your action was at your behest and not the Governing Council. We learnt that you went with a copy of the constitution, explaining the content to her.

“Kindly recall that an emergency meeting was summoned on Wednesday, 1st March 2017, where you claimed that you never mentioned to Her Excellency that Governing Council mandated you. In order not to put the Governing Council in disrepute, respond in writing your position on same.”

Following the Council’s query to him, Mr. Taiwo wrote a letter of apology, dated March 10, and addressed to Mrs. Ambode stating that the purpose of his visit was not to undermine the First Lady or her office.

“I write to tender a sincere apology to you on the matter surrounding our visit to Your Excellency recently,” the chaplain wrote.

“In honesty, I have high regard for you and see you as mother to all. Your effort in building the Chapel and the State in general is highly appreciated and we pray God to continue to strengthen you the more.

“I am very sorry for any embarrassment our visit might have caused you and I plead you find a place in your heart to forgive.”

Although Mr. Taiwo apologized to Mrs. Ambode concerning the February 14 incident, he remained consistently hostile and disrespectful of the First Lady, culminating in the May 14 incident that may have quickened his removal, one of our sources said.

“The truth is that as a continuation of his hostility towards the woman, he was openly disrespectful to the First Lady at the annointing service. Yet, the First Lady waited through it and never left in anger.”

Another official said the pastor “remained perpectually angry because “another person was made a Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Matters and assumed wrongly that as the chaplain, it was his duty to play such roles and to act as the spiritual father to the First Family.”

“He was consistently pestering the First Lady with a litany of requests, and was repeatedly advised by the Governing Council. But he does not appear to have any respect for constituted authorities as advised by the Bible.”

The source added that the Governing Council was also crossed with the pastor for allegedly converting the church’s bus to his personal use.

The chaplain failed to make amends, an official said.

Moji Olaiya’s Burial Committee Reacts To Reports She Died Of Poisoning
Posted: 28 May 2017 05:24 AM PDT

Following reports that late Nollywood actress, Moji Olaiya died of poisoning, her family through the burial committee has issued a statement denying the reports.

Read the full statement below;

The attention of the Burial Committee of Late Moji Olaiya has been drawn to the rumour spreading around that the autopsy carried out on the deceased stated that the late thespian died of poison. It is a total fallacy.

The family through this committee wish to vehemently state as follows:

i.) Late Moji Olaiya DID NOT die of poison and the rumour mongers should provide the autopsy report they are quoting from.

ii.) The younger brother of the deceased, Femi Olaiya who travelled from UK to Canada and top Nigerian promoter in Canada, Mr Yinka Farinde monitored and recieved the details of the autopsy and nothing of poison is in the original autopsy documents with the family.

iii.) Whoever is spreading the rumours is evil and have no respect for the dead. Karma like kinetic energy will locate and find such detractors, using the vulnerability and anonymousity of social media as a channel to perpetrate their motive.

iv.) That we know BREAKING NEWS doesnt wait for no one but it makes more sense for the media and blogger to verify vividly the source of a news item and have documetary evidence or fact in sight before going to press.

v.) The family finds the rumour disturbing and see it as a deliberate attempt to frustrate the befitting burial they are putting in place for their beloved one.

vi.) The accused women were of help to the deceased in terms of accommodation and so on during her lifetime in the same Canada and one of them has been taking care of the 2-months old child the deceased left behind as we speak. Any envious intentions against their persons should not degenerate to the level of spreading falsehood such as murder against. It is bizarre and appalling.

vii.) The committee humbly again ask for total respect for the dead, family and women whose pictures had gone viral. Thank you for usual understanding and co-operation in this regards.

Publicity Secretary For: LATE MOJI OLAIYA BURIAL COMMITTEE.
